Macau will implement a full smoking ban at its casinos on October 6.

“By applying this measure we are clearly separating the areas for smokers and non-smokers, reducing the conflicts resulting from the law’s implementation," the Health Bureau said in a statement. The report said that specific rooms for smokers will be created on casino premises, but they won’t have any gambling tables whatsoever.

An anti-tobacco law actually was partially implemented back in 2012, but apparently there were “thousands” of violations, as some casinos moved tables around and made other accommodations to cater to high rollers who smoke.

The full implementation will apparently get rid of the problem for good, the government believes. However, a conflicting report said that smoking will still be allowed in VIP rooms, where most of Macau’s revenue is said to be generated.
