In the US, the Tropicana Evansville casino is to break ground on a US$50m facility that will be the first of Indiana’s riverboat casinos to move to an onshore site.

The casino will have a July 19 ceremony to mark the start of work on the 75,000sq.ft entertainment complex. That will include 45,000sq.ft devoted to gambling. The new facility is expected to be completed in December 2017.

A state law enacted last year allows Indiana’s 10 riverboats to build new casinos on land near their current locations. Tropicana announced plans in November for building the new casino between its existing hotels and across the street from the current riverboat. The riverboat will close.
