The European Commission has deemed that gaming operator La Française des Jeux (FDJ) did not breach EU State aid rules during its privatisation in France.

In July 2021, the Commission investigated whether the renumeration payment of €380m that FDJ made to secure its 25-year right to operate offline and online gaming might have given FDJ an “undue economic advantage.”
The investigation has resulted in no issues being discovered and the renumeration calculation methodology parameters being changed.
The renumeration has subsequently increased to €477m.
“FDJ welcomes the closure of this investigation and the European Commission’s confirmation, in line with the French Conseil d’Etat’s decision of 14 April 2023, that the legal framework adopted when the group was privatised was robust,” the operator said.
