Disney plans to phase out Star Wars and Marvel slot machines in the US, reports the New York Times.

A Disney representative told the NY Times the decision to phase out the machines – which have been developed by IGT - was taken some time ago but was only now being made public.

"Marvel discontinued plans to initiate or renew slot machine licensing arrangements as part of its integration with Disney," she said. "The handful of remaining licence agreements have expiration dates within the next few years."

LucasFilm, to which Disney bought all rights for $4bn a year ago, is set to follow suit. The studio is reportedly also to fight plans for new themed casinos in Florida.
