Amazing Holdings, the Isle of Man-based property development group, has received approval from the Taiwan Tourism Bureau to develop a five-star resort on one of the nation's outlying islands in the Penghu archipelago.

The approval follows reports earlier this month that authorities in Taiwan were calling for legalisation of casino gambling on the country’s offshore islands. There have subsequently been strong indications that authorities intend to enact legislation soon, with the Penghu group of islands being the expected location.

"Until recently, the Pescadores [an alternative name for Penghu] was off-limits for development during the martial law era, but since the rapid democratization of Taiwan, conditions have improved and Amazing is now well positioned to take advantage of this pristine location as the first major beach front development on the islands," the company said.

Amazing said it will continue to monitor gaming legislative developments in Taiwan when legislative activity resumes next month.
