The operator is planning a 36-storey resort near Sri Lanka’s capital of Colombo and has bought a piece of land adjacent to the state-owned Lake House newspaper publishing house for the development, in which the company has agreed to invest $350m.

The property will be called Crown Colombo and will open in 2016. Reports surfaced earlier this month that Crown had been asked by the Sri Lanka government to submit a proposal for a mega resort. There are nine small casinos in Sri Lanka, one in Kollupitiya and the remaining eight in Colombo.
