The Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council committee discussed the company’s plans to build the £120m, 50,000sq.ft casino and hotel complex at a meeting on Wednesday.

Councillors “were minded to approve the application,” the council said, subject to future reports relating to public transport, traffic management, employment and retail.

Responding to the news, Genting said: “Genting Casinos now looks forward to the next stage of the planning application process for Resorts World at the NEC and then to begin the process, with the support of the NEC Group, to deliver this exciting leisure and entertainment complex."

The Resorts World at the NEC project is expected to open by the end of 2013, creating 1,000 new jobs.
