UK newspaper The Guardian has reported that a complete ban on gambling advertising in Australia is expected to be introduced to the Senate this week.
The Greens political party plans to add the ban to the Communication Legislation Amendment and force the Senate to vote on it.
The move follows a letter from more than 60 prominent Australian figures calling for a complete ban on gambling ads.
The government was expected to propose caps on the ads for television alongside bans on digital platforms, which multiple officials considered too weak.
