Visitation to Macau during the first half of the Chinese New Year has been stronger than gaming revenues.

Visitation during the first 14 days of February rose 4.7 per cent to 1.07 million, including a 4.3 per cent boost in mainland Chinese to 693,598. Table game revenue of $1.1bn grew four per cent from January but remains below last year.

That result is less than expected but is affected by lower play in the first seven days of the month as many customers delayed their visits until the start of the lunar new year on the 8th, Vitaly Umansky of Bernstein said.

If trends hold, February would decline 7.4 to 8.9 per cent, the best year-over-year comparison since September 2014, Umansky said.
