The number of times that mainland Chinese tourists can enter Macau annually may be limited by the Chinese government.

International gambling media sources are quoting the National Immigration Administration, who have quantified it to gamblers who have travelled to Macau as few as three times in the previous three years.

Visa restrictions have not been imposed yet, but the threat is similar to that voiced only three months ago when immigration authorities in some cities tightened up on the issuing of Macau visas for those making regular trips.

It is thought in some gaming circles that it would be the VIP sector that would be most hit by any cutback.

In mid-May it was revealed that Macau’s average daily GGR had fallen 75 per cent in just one week, down to $6m, which was the worst weekly revenue recorded since October of 2020. The monthly revenue figures for this year have also fallen.
