Century Casinos has applied for a casino licence in Switzerland.

Through its 97 per cent-owned subsidiary, Casino Les 3 Lacs, the US-based operator is one of four companies vying for the chance to operate a casino in the Canton of Neuchatel region.

The casino, which would be located at the intersection of highways five and 10 near an Ibis hotel, would be a property of approximately 21,000sq.ft and offer up to 250 slot machines and 18 gaming tables.

Although Century remains cautious over the prospects of winning the licence and developing a casino, it said it expects to make a total investment of $30m if its bid proves successful.

A decision by the Swiss government is expected in the second or third quarter of the year.
