The developer of Magnolia Bluffs Casino in Natchez in the US state of Mississippi is proposing a $140m casino hotel in Gulfport.

Virginia attorney Robert Lubin has the support of Mayor Billy Hewes and is negotiating with the city council to lease land for the project that would include a 300-room hotel, remaking the historic Markham Hotel.

This is Gulfport’s second recent effort at adding another casino following the failure of Rotate Black to get financing for its proposed Hemingway resort. Gulfport’s only other casino is Island View.

Lubin’s Mississippi Coast Entertainment hopes to begin construction by summer and be open 15 to 18 months later.
