In the US, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo now says he is open to putting a casino in the New York City area.
“I have never said on any subject it’s my way or the highway,” Cuomo said at a press conference recently. He has been under pressure by various politicians to allow a casino in the New York area ever since he said he wants the first three of seven to-be-authorised casinos in upstate.
Among the biggest lobbyists for a downstate casino is Genting, which wants to convert its giant Resorts World slot casino in the Queens into a fully-fledged casino. Calls also have come for casinos in Willets Point in Queens and Coney Island in Brooklyn, among other locations.
