The US city of Boston has sued to stop Wynn Resorts from developing its $1.6bn casino in neighbouring Everett.

Boston says it will bear the brunt of traffic and other logistical challenges from the casino and, therefore, should be declared a host city. As a host city, Wynn would be required to negotiate a community impact agreement with Boston.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has been openly hostile to Wynn and had favoured the proposed Mohegan Sun casino in also neighbouring Revere, which had bid on the Boston area licence. Boston wants to have Wynn’s licence nullified. The suit comes just as Wynn has paid $35m to close on the purchase of its 100-acre site in Everett.
