Gaming revenues in the US state of Nevada rose by over 15 per cent in February.

This was the result of a calendar shift that moved the lucrative Chinese New Year holiday into February. Nevada casinos received $1.073bn in revenues during February, a 15.1 per cent increase compared with the same month a year ago, according to figures released this week by the Gaming Control Board.

The total was the highest monthly amount produced by Nevada casinos since December 2007. On the Las Vegas Strip, revenues reached a record $696.1m, a 31.2 per cent increase.

The record figures were the result of high-end baccarat play associated with the 10-day Chinese New Year holiday. In 2012, the Chinese New Year was in January and in 2013, the holiday fell into February. As a result, revenues in January declined 12.4 per cent statewide and 18.7 per cent on the Strip.
