A bid to bring legalised gambling to Hawaii has been started by a local politician who will bring a bill before the state legislature.

Republican John Mizuno wants to bring in a sportsbook and card room to the island of Oahu. He claims that there are as many as 7,200 illegal gaming rooms operating, says local news media KITV4.
They would be removed under Mizuno’s plans and help to raise taxes. Mizuno said that around $1bn annually was spent by Hawaii residents in Las Vegas; much of that money would remain on the island and help create affordable housing.
