In the US, Washington DC Council has proposed amendments to its recently passed sports betting bill.

The amendments would double the licensing fees to $500,000 for the four designated sports venues and to $100,000 for licensing venues outside of the two-block exclusivity zones of those venues. Discounts to the licensing fees would be offered to applicants that establish joint ventures with certified local businesses.

Another bill would exempt sports betting from the required procurement process to get them up and running this year. The emergency bill would let the DC Lottery obtain technology platforms, lottery gaming systems and related services, according to a council memo.

It may allow the council to bypass a bidding process on the licence to allow current lottery operator Intralot to move forward, according to Legal Sports Report.
