No matter how high tech your casino might be, the humble deck of cards will always be a casino’s most essential piece of equipment. One of the most common questions people ask about casino playing cards is ‘How often do they get changed?’ After all, any mark, or scuff could give an edge to any eagle-eyed player, so it is important to only play with pristine, immaculate cards.

The answer, however, depends on many things, though it is generally measured in hours. It is common in high-end casinos such as on the Las Vegas strip for cards to be changed at the start of every eight-hour shift, but sometimes it is a lot more frequently. Each casino sets its own limits for how long a deck can stay on the gaming floor.
