The authorities in Macau have stopped 4,521 visitors from entering the enclave in the first 10 months of this year.
Two thirds of those people were mainland Chinese, while 32 were from Hong Kong, 641 from Indonesia, 505 from the Philippines and 259 from Vietnam. The number of Hong Kong visitors stopped from entering Macau between January and October more than doubled compared to last year, according to a report.
A police spokesperson did not provide details on the reasons for barring these visitors, just saying that Macau laws back these actions. In the recent past, security forces have barred several Hong Kong pan-democrat activists and even journalists from entering Macau, without providing details as to why they were considered a threat to the city’s public security.
