For many countries, 2024 was a year of important political change. Thailand saw a new prime minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, sworn in in September who is expected to continue her predecessor’s efforts to legalise the casino industry. Indeed, the Thai government was soon after advancing an “entertainment complex” bill which would allow casinos to operate within large-scale venues, which is expected to pass through both parliament chambers in 2025.

In Europe, the UK and France both elected new governments, both of whom seemed keen to continue to support the gaming industry, with the UK’s Labour government overseeing the continuation of the nation’s white paper on gambling and the newly elected French prime minister, Michel Barnier, vowing to bring gambling laws in line with most other EU countries.
