How has casino gaming in Europe developed throughout history?
While some may find Las Vegas or Macau synonymous with glamorous casinos, Europe can boast a long and distinguished history with gambling and land-based gaming. Evidence of gambling goes back to the earliest civilisations on the continent, and it remains easily the largest region for bricks-and-mortar gaming venues on the planet.
In 2024, there were an estimated 128,000 of the world’s 172,000 gambling properties operating in Europe - more than in every other global region combined.
