There are 157 million people on Facebook in the US and the level of game play is phenomenal with 87 million users regularly playing City Ville and 35 million playing Texas Hold 'Em Poker
These interesting statistics emerged from the first DNA interactive, out-of-home entertainment conference, held in London last week and organised by Kevin Williams of KWP, in association with the UK Department of Trade and Industry. It appears that that 78 per cent of the US population use the internet and 60 per cent use social media. How scary is that? It's pretty frightening to think that so many people are happy to stay at home and play games on their computer, but conversely it's reassuring that people still crave the social interaction from social media such as Facebook and from interactive game play. Next we need to learn how to get those 122 million game players away from the home and into a socially acceptable out-of-home game playing leisure environment. The need for social contact is the key.
