The upcoming introduction of the new pound coin in the UK is foremost in operators’ minds as they consider TITO solutions, according to payment solutions specialist GeWeTe.

Mark Edmundson, sales manager, said that ticket-in, ticket-out was undoubtedly the hot topic of conversation on the stand during this week’s ICE.

“It is a question of whether operators invest in TITO before the pound coin changeover or do it at a later stage, in which case they risk outlaying money in the short term that could have been put towards the investment in a TITO solution,” he said.

The other issue that operators are considering when it comes to the new coin is how long it will take for it to fully replace the existing currency.

“The Royal Mint is predicting that this process will take six to nine months,” added Edmundson. “However, it seems likely that it could take a lot longer and so operators will have to make decisions on how long they will continue to accept both coins, which adds further complications.”
