The Spanish amusements industry is mourning the loss of famous footballer and commercial director of Sega SA, Manuel Velázquez, at the age of 72.

A footballer to came to the notice of his home club, Malaga, in 1958 when he was only 15, Velázquez, played for Real Madrid from 1965.

He won a European Cup with the team in 1966 and went on to six league titles and three Spanish cups between 1965 and 1976. In total, he made 402 appearances for Real Madrid.

A midfielder, Velázquez had one final year in football, in Toronto, Canada, playing for the Toronto Metro in the North American league. 

Velázquez, who died on Saturday, lived in Fuengirola, near Malaga.
