As the weekend began there were strong rumours circulating the UK market to the effect that the Novomatic Group of Austria has acquired leading British single-site operator Playnation, based at Runcorn in Cheshire, close to Liverpool.

No confirmation has come from either company, but InterGame's understanding is that the entire share capital in Playnation has been purchased from owner Palatine Private Equity. Current managing director Adam Hodges (pictured) is to remain with the company.

Hodges led the Palatine-backed management buy-out of Playnation from its then owners Inspired Gaming in 2013.

The company currently has around 20,000 pieces of equipment on location across 1,700 sites in the UK and has about 800 staff.
