Aspers has won its bid to operate a large casino in Milton Keynes, around 50 miles from London.

Milton Keynes Council announced that it has granted a provisional statement to Aspers, which recently unveiled the UK’s largest casino, Aspers at Westfield Stratford City in London. The statement paves the way for the company to apply for a casino licence.

The project, which is expected to represent an investment of around £10m, will be located at the Xscape entertainment complex in the town. The proposed development will be constructed on two levels with the casino reception on the ground floor and the casino located on the first floor.

“We are delighted that, after a detailed and comprehensive assessment, Milton Keynes’ Licensing Committee has recognised that our bid delivers the best operator in the best location within the best development,” said Damian Aspinall, chairman of Aspers. “We now look forward to turning our dream for Aspers MK into reality over the coming months.”

The opportunity to develop a large casino in Milton Keynes, which, under the Gambling Act of 2005, is permitted to have up to 150 slot machines, generated a great deal of interest from operators.

The first stage of the application process attracted five bids, which had been whittled down to just three – Aspers, Grosvenor Casinos and Apollo Leisure and Resorts – by the second stage.
