Las Vegas Sands’ multi-billion dollar casino project planned for Spain is dividing opinion among the country’s politicians and citizens.

The project - already dubbed ‘Eurovegas’ – is expected to bring six casinos housing 18,000 gaming machines to the country. It is also anticipated to create a staggering 260,000 jobs, the Financial Times reports.

Barcelona and Madrid are both believed to be vying for the project but opposition to the development is growing among those who claim it will bring further social problems.

However, politicians from both Catalonia and Madrid are understood to be keen to bring much-needed investment to a country that is struggling to cope with rising unemployment.
