Solihull Council has awarded its large casino licence to Genting UK, paving the way for a new gaming facility to be developed at the NEC in Birmingham.

The Resorts World at the NEC project will be located between the LG Arena and the Crowne Plaza Hotel overlooking Pendigo Lake. The company is planning to develop 50,000sq.m of floor space across seven floors, which will consist of a casino, hotel, spa, conference centre and cinema.

Overall, the project will represent a £120m investment by Genting.

Speaking to InterGaming before today’s decision was made, Genting’s executive deputy chairman, Peter Brooks explained that the company has been working with the NEC for over three years in what he described as a “fruitful partnership” and the pair finalised their plans for the project three months ago.

“It’s a very big commitment for us as a group but it’s a very big thing for the NEC and the area because it will create a lot of jobs and we’re making a large investment,” Brooks said.
