UK-based operator Rank Group saw revenues improve in the first 15 weeks of the financial year.

The company announced that its revenue grew two per cent in the 15 weeks to April 10, largely driven by increases in the number of customers and visits.

Revenue from its casino arm, Grosvenor Casinos, was in line with the same period in 2010, despite strong growth in customer visits. On a like-for-like basis, visits rose by 12 per cent but spend per visit decreased by 11 per cent.

Although visitor numbers were on a par with the same period last year, its Mecca Bingo business saw revenue rise four per cent as spend per visit increased four per cent.

Rank Interactive, meanwhile, achieved a 23 per cent increase in revenue due to the strong performance of its Bluesq.com and Meccabingo.com sites.

"Rank has made a positive start to the year with growth in customers and customer visits and a significant strengthening of the balance sheet," the company said. "Despite the challenges facing our business, the group remains confident in its prospects for the year and the achievement of its longer-term ambitions."
