The Global Gaming Expo, or G2E, will open its doors in Las Vegas today to reveal to the casino industry the ravages of the international recession - occupied space on the show floor will be down 22 per cent. The number of companies exhibiting has fallen from around 700 last year to around 500 this year.

Nevertheless, it is thought that 23,000 or more visitors will be converging on the Las Vegas Convention Center for the show, including representatives of 93 exhibitors from 26 different countries.

The show has always attracted celebrities. This year they include Chris Noth, of Sex and the City fame, and Playboy’s Playmate of the Year, Ida Ljungvist,  who will be posing for pictures and signing autographs on the Bally Technologies stand.

Also there will be Michael Godard, the Rock Star of the Art World, as he has been called, who will be designing games for Aristocrat under a new licence.
