SkyCity launched the first session of its poker school at its Auckland property on July 20. The school is the first in New Zealand and is intended to provide SkyCity with fully trained poker dealers for its Festival of Poker in October.

Over 800 applicants applied to take part in the poker school. A selection process reduced the list to a final 36. The successful applicants attend the school at SkyCity from 6pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday for three weeks. During this time they wil learn how to be a poker dealer as well as how to work with customers.

"We’re hugely excited about this poker school," said Ejaaz Dean of SkyCity. "It is the first in New Zealand, showing that SkyCity is at the forefront of the poker industry in New Zealand."
