Fresh doubt surrounds the future of BCN World, the giant tourist and recreation development planned for Barcelona, Spain, which includes casinos, after two major partners pulled out.

Blow for Spanish project

The revised complex, latterly set for the regions of Vila-seca and Salou, in Tarragona, has lost the Chinese group Melco and US backer Hard Rock.

The two were to bid for the construction of the complex in partnership with Malaysian casino group Genting.

Bidding is due to finish on June 30 but there have been so many hold-ups, withdrawals and false-starts in the project, which began in 2012, that the partners are reported to be switching their concentration on to the new casino resort project in Cyprus.

Melco is also reported to be directing its attention to the new casino prospects in Japan and South Korea while Hard Rock is concentrating on new casinos in the US and Canada.
