Casino and entertainment giant MGM Resorts International is hoping that its case for $1bn gambling complex in the centre of Atlanta in the US state of Georgia will gain the backing of the state’s general assembly and the governor’s office.

The proposal would create 3,500 jobs and focus on “Las Vegas-style casino gambling” and not rely on banks of video slots, said state representative Ron Stephens.

“I’ve seen what they want to do and it’s going to blow your mind,” said Stephens. “It’s massive in its size and its elegance. This is a game-changer. I’m looking for a win-win-win and this is it.”

An MGM Resorts spokesman said the company’s interest in Atlanta was in “the very preliminary stages.”
