Harmony Cove and Celebration Jamaica have received provisional approval to build the first two casino resorts in Jamaica.
The two won by default as the other three bidders did not submit required bidding fees.
Harmony Cove estimates its project (pictured) will cost $970m for the first phase with five hotels containing 5,000 rooms, two PGA golf courses, more than 400 residential units and a private airport along with its casino.
Celebration Jamaica’s project will cost $500m for the first phase and include a hotel, entertainment centre and sports book to accompany the casino.
The projects require 1,000 hotel rooms to be completed and an eventual 2,000-room hotel complex before applying for a casino licence.
