Illinois Rep Bob Rita has introduced House Bill 2939, which would authorise the Illinois Gaming Board to develop a casino in Chicago and appoint an operator to run it.

The city would select the site. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanual has backed a casino in the city, though it’s unclear if he supports Rita’s bill. This comes as HB 2545 has been introduced preventing a casino in Chicago from being located within 20 miles of Rush Street’s Rivers casino in Des Plaines.

Efforts to get a casino in Chicago through a more widespread gaming expansion in Illinois have twice been vetoed by former Governor Pat Quinn.
