The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp has said it’s unlikely to award any new casino licences until president Benigno Aquino steps down in 2016.

The move comes as PAGCOR seeks to allow the existing and soon-to-open casinos in Manila’s Entertainment City to develop their business in the market before opening it up to additional competition.

Among the casino operators in Entertainment City are Melco Crown, Genting and Belle Corp and Universal Entertainment.

Caesars wants to build a US$1.5bn casino adjacent to the Ninoy Acquino airport in Manila, which it would connect to the airport’s first and second terminals via light rail transit.
