As Senator Harry Reid seeks to resurrect a federal online gambling bill in the US, Texas has become the latest state to make a move.

State legislators have introduced a constitutional amendment that would authorise online poker in the state if regulated by federal law while also permitting online poker in the Lone Star state in the absence of national legislation.

The proposal from state senator Leticia Van de Putte would create an automatic opt-in for the state should a federal programme exist, at the same time superseding any conflicting state law.

The amendment will be voted on by the people of Texas at the election on November 5, 2013.
