Senator Harry Reid has conceded that his bill to legalise online poker in the US, drafted with senator Jon Kyl, will now not go before Congress in 2012, having “simply run out of time.”

Reid (pictured), the democrat senator for Nevada, also accepted that he had been unable establish a meaningful consensus on the bill. His proposals for legalising interstate online poker will now need to be revived if they are to go before Congress in 2013.

"I am disappointed," said Reid, adding that he and senator Dean Heller (R-Nev), "remain committed to this issue and it will be a priority for us in the new Congress."
