Canada is appearing to be more proactive than the US and has said it will go live with online sports betting in 2012.
According to a story on Yogonet, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s chairman Paul Godfrey said that the Crown corporation would spend the next 18 months consulting on internet gambling.
Legalising online gambling in Ontario could mean an additional US$500m a year to the cash-strapped provincial government. However, Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudack warned about online gambling under the Dalton McGuinty government, stating that the Liberals should proceed with caution.
