Gauselmann sponsors the stadium, naming it after its familiar brand, and it was an ideal venue for a major industry event, in this case attracting 1,300 guests. A mix of products was presented to the visitors, together with a party atmosphere to entertain them in 8,300sq.m that covered the entire playing area.

The company’s latest multi-game machine, Zonic, was the highlight of the event and was introduced by main board director Jürgen Stühmeyer, who has responsibility for sales.

He referred to the "extraordinary times" that the industry had endured in recent months and welcomed German business partners and visitors from the important distribution markets of the Netherlands and Spain.

The guest of honour was company chairman Paul Gauselmann. He said: “Normally it is a sports person that we cheer in the Merkur Spiel-Arena, but I am proud of these products, as they feature many new ideas.”

Mr Gauselmann was presented with a belated birthday present of a piece of meteorite that had come from the planet Mercury, fitting with the company’s familiar brand name.

The new Zonic range of cabinets, unveiled at the summit, was introduced in a spectacular floor show. The cabinet has two 32ins screens upon which to present multigames. The cabinet can be easily changed using six different frames.

Other products on display included the new Multi Play feature that permits three games to be experienced on one multigamer, a Risk-Plus feature that permits entry at a higher level and the Mega Space respin feature.

For the pubs market there was the new Casino Corner room concept, with the new Merkur Multi Multi VIII and Merkur Multi Multi Bank Safe three-in-one games packages, plus the Merkur Multi Athena games package.
