The world’s first player vs player VR esports experience is being introduced to the UK by Zero Latency.

Zero Latency, the developer of warehouse scale, free-roam, multiplayer virtual reality gaming, opened its first VR venue, meetspaceVR, in Nottingham’s intu Victoria Centre last October and its new experience, Sol Raiders, is launching in July at the same location.

In it, two teams of up to four players pit their wits and skills against each other across three fast-paced, futuristic maps. Players are pitched into a post-apocalypse sci-fi world where they must fight opponents to obtain a mysterious power source called Sol.

“With more than 20,000 players having already played our free-roam VR games in Nottingham, and the growing popularity of esports, we’ve seen a huge demand from players who want to compete against each other in head to head action. With our new esports lounge and Sol Raiders now they can,” said John Lilley, CEO of meetspaceVR.

“The large open spaces in our VR and esports arenas gives us more flexibility to develop social experiences for groups. Players at meetspaceVR are not ‘battery farmed’ into tight spaces, booths or cubicles. We have designed our entire venue to be sociable, open and inclusive.” He said.

During July, meetspaceVR will also be hosting the UK’s first team vs team free-roam VR esports tournament. Over 50 teams will be competing in the event that is the first of its kind in the UK.

“This is not your usual VR experience,” said Lilley. “We have made our trademark social VR experience even more exciting, accessible and unique every time you play. This is not just for gamers it is for everyone; adrenaline seekers, corporate events and especially families and friends looking to have fun together. It’s our most ambitious and fun title yet.”

The Nottingham Arena has already opened bookings for Sol Raiders in July. The meetspaceVR esports arena opens to the public on bank Holiday Monday, May 27.
