Europe’s largest market for gaming machines is still struggling with constantly changing technical specifications and taxation anomalies, writes Gioco News editor Alessio Crisantemi

The half-million gaming machines in Italy, mostly AWPs but with a strong VLT element, should provide a powerful leadership of Europe’s limited payout machine market but they don’t. So, the gaming sector is ready to face a revolution in 2018.
With mid-January’s publication of the highly anticipated call for the renewal of online gaming licences (about two years too late), a new phase begins in the Italian market. This brings a series of interesting perspectives to light in an increasingly multi-channel world at a global level and online companies are not the only ones that need to worry.
