The developer of the game that sparked the golden era of arcade gaming, Taito, is to re-commence operations outside of Japan.

The iconic Space Invader logo of the company was proudly on display of its booth at the recent IAAPA Amusement Expo in Orlando, US and InterGame caught up with its representatives to find out more about its plans.

“We’re going to restart our overseas business as of next April,” said Masaki Aono, section manager of Taito’s global strategy division. “We have several games and IPs in Japan already and we want to re-introduce our content to arcades and VR platforms outside of Japan.”

Director and senior general manger of Taito’s business group, Masakazu Suzuki added: “We have many games in the development stage. Here at IAAPA, we are looking to introduce some of our titles to a new audience and we’re hoping to receive feedback. Once we’ve made any appropriate amendments, we’ll be looking to distribute in the spring 2019.”

Aono revealed that the company would also be looking to tie up with a distributor in the US and other regions depending on the initial performance of its first few games.

The Taito booth at the show displayed the VR Attack on Titan game that InterGame reported on back in October along with a football simulator. It also had Ultra Street Fighter IV and a train simulator, Densha De Go!!

Taito was acquired in 2008 by home gaming giant Square Enix and has recently also announced plans to return to developing games for the console market too in an attempt to drive growth.
