Having struggled with sanctions placed upon it by the west in 2014, the Russian amusement industry still hasn’t got back to normal

Russia was a very rich market for the amusement industry right up until about four years ago, when the country invaded Ukraine and a swathe of western countries, led by the US, imposed sanctions on it in an attempt to change the Kremlin’s policy towards Ukraine.

Initially, sanctions targeted individuals close to the Russian leadership, as well as key decision-makers, forbidding them to enter the US and EU member states (as well as a number of other independent countries including Norway, Canada and Australia) and freezing its assets in those countries. This was soon implemented on a national level.
