Hologate has added haptic capabilities to its virtual reality offering.

Hologate goes haptic

The Germany-based company showcased its upgraded vest at the EAS show in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, at the end of September. The product is wireless and has 40 vibration points where the player can feel where they have been tagged by their opponents.

“We also have brand new headsets,” said Leif Petersen, CEO and founder of Hologate. “We integrated the Vive Pro into our offering. It has nearly double the resolution of the last model.”

The company is steadily expanding internationally having installed in two new sites in New Zealand and China in September.

“We now have a factory in Shanghai that is producing our offering identically to what we have in Europe and the US,” he said.

He revealed the company will now begin incorporating third-party games into its repertoire, having previously only offered its own exclusive games.

The first of these will be Das Boot, developed by Remote Control Productions. “This game will be available before the end of the year. Players will have to manoeuvre a submarine during an attack from a destroyer in the Second World War. There will be four different roles, for example, the captain will be in charge of shooting the missiles,” he said.

Petersen believes the best VR on the market presently is geared towards enterprise, particularly the automotive industry and this quality of VR will be cheap enough to apply to the amusement industry within two years.
