Returning after 12 years, this special edition is an eagerly anticipated sequel, considered by some as the brand that defined and popularised the horror game genre.

House of The Dead is a title that has a good pedigree. With a back catalogue of four amusement games, as well as movies and console games, it boasts a global following of core and casual players. Staying true to its reputation, House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn delivers a horror action experience that Sega believes “has never looked or felt this real.”

“We are thrilled to be part of this historic release. House of the Dead is the crown jewel in Sega’s licence portfolio, with such a great heritage and loyal following. We pulled out all the stops to deliver the best experience. Developed by the dedicated R&D team in Japan, this game gets a truly special edition treatment in every way possible,” commented Paul Williams, CEO at Sega.

Being a quintessential zombie horror game, it rides on the current wave of popularity of the genre that has seen TV, films, mobile and console games all feature the living dead. The zombie horror-themed cabinet sports a unique 3D design molding that has zombies trying to escape the cabinet. Bright colour changing lights throw zombie shadows and a red zombie eye on the front of the cabinet is designed to attract. If the eye is pressed, a 3D zombie appears with flashing lights and a loud scream.

“We are using cutting-edge Unreal Engine 4 game graphics technology that brings all the zombies, characters and environment to life in incredible detail and quality. This powerful game engine allowed our developers at Sega in Japan to increase the zombie count significantly, so players have a lot more zombie blasting fun. Dedicated hardware and the huge 55ins, 1080p full HD screen running at 60 frames per second, produces a vivid and immersive visual experience,” explained Williams.

The House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn super deluxe cabinet delivers a five-dimensional full body experience. Players will hear bullets flying and terrifying zombies from every angle with the 5.1 channel surround sound and sub-woofer system. A high-spec bass shaker produces 50 watts of vibrations that accompanies in-game scenes of escape on a quad-bike or in a helicopter. Air cannon blasts are also employed to make players feel explosions and wind. Dedicated spot LED lights add to the mood of the game and work together with the other effects to produce a captivating and tense atmosphere designed to thrill players.

The controller is lightweight and uses vibration technology to produce a realistic recoil effect. By controlling the frequency to the vibration unit, the controller generates appropriate recoil that adapts to the weapon type used during the game.

Five game missions, secret items to collect and various special weapons encourage repeat play with two skill levels selectable, normal or master.

Williams concluded: “With so many features packed in this game along with the news of phenomenal test income that has spread, we are seeing a huge surge in pre-orders. This is a must-see game at the upcoming IAAPA show where it will be launched officially to the Western world.”

When assembled, the super deluxe cabin measures 215cm (84ins) deep, 145cm (57ins) wide, 231cm (90ins) high, and weighs 500kg (1,103lbs).

House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn will be on Sega’s booths 1506 and 1606 at IAAPA from November 13-16 at the Orange County Convention Centre.
