MGM Springfield has a new president and chief operating officer after the casino in the US state of Massachusetts recorded a record low in revenues last year.

MGM Resorts International said on Tuesday that Michael Mathis has stepped down. Chris Kelley, president and chief operating officer of MGM Northfield Park in Ohio, is taking over as MGM Springfield’s new president.

Mathis had served as president since January 2014, more than four years before MGM Springfield opened in August 2018.

The change in leadership at the $1bn urban casino comes after the company reported gross gambling revenue of $18.9m for the month of December, a record low. Its first-year gaming revenue came in $144m below projections.
