The Warsaw-based Totolotek will be the first entry into the Polish market for the German giant. The share purchase has been agreed and only merger clearance is awaited before completion.

“Sports betting is extremely popular in Poland and for many football fans it’s an essential part of a good match. The acquisition of Totolotek is an important part of our growth strategy to open up the Polish market and thereby gain another core market in Europe alongside Germany, Austria, Denmark and Belgium,” explains Niko Steinkrauss, CEO of Merkur Sportwetten.

Totolotek has been a leading operator in Poland for 27 years and is one of the top three operating companies in the sports betting field in Poland, marketing its products through 260 distribution points around the towns and cities of Poland as well as through its website and mobile apps. It has 560 employees.
