The Hong Kong-based casino company International Entertainment Corporation has bought up an English football club.

The sale was announced yesterday of Wigan Athletic FC to IEC, buying out all of the family-held shares in the club.

IEC is a group celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, having been founded in 1998 and entering the stock market in 2002. Its business became multi-faceted but mainly provided wireless, broadband and multimedia enabling system integration services in the Asia Pacific region and latterly content and movie related.

Its Filippino-based Hotel Group includes a casino hotel in Metro Manila and casino interests expanded in 2009 with the opening of the L’Arc Macau hotel and casino complex.
