The opening of Brazil's casino market could be taking steps forward.

Brazilian Senator Benedito de Lira expects to hold a vote in the Senate on regulating gaming next week, Games Magazine Brazil reported.

Guilherme Mussi, who introduced a gaming bill into Parliament, said he'll wait on the Senate's bill, which is more advanced.

A vote late last year in the Senate Constitutional and Justice Commission failed. It would have legalised illegal yet popular lottery game Jogo do Bicho, slots and video bingo inside casinos and bingo halls and igaming.

The regulation of Brazil has been a hot topic in gaming for the past few years. Major casino companies, most notably Las Vegas Sands, have shown interest in building a casino resort in the country under the right circumstances.

Last year's bill proposed taxes of 10 per cent for land-based gaming and 15 per cent for igaming.
